Higher Education Minister says 5.3% of public university graduates with degrees were unemployed in the first six months after graduating last year PETALING JAYA:
The number of unemployed graduates with degrees has decreased since 2021, said Higher Education Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir.
In a written parliamentary response to a question from Ismail Muttalib (PN-Maran) today, Zambry said 5.3% of public university graduates with degrees in education were unemployed in the first six months after graduating last year. He added that this figure is down from the 7.7% unemployment rate of 2021.
“So far, the academy has seen 2,190 teachers graduate in 2023, all of whom have benefited from enrollment,” he said. Ismail asked what percentage of graduates from public universities and colleges are still unemployed today.
However, Zambry said that all teachers from public colleges have been fully trained in schools since 2021, according to data from the Ministry of Education. “In 2021, 1,572 teachers were trained and all of them were deployed (in schools). In 2022, 2,322 teachers were trained and all of them have been deployed,” he said.
