The education ministry has assigned 13,749 fresh educators to primary and secondary educational institutions nationwide this year, as stated by education minister Fadhlina Sidek.
Fadhlina informed the Dewan Rakyat that the rate of teacher assignments stood at 97.62% for primary institutions and 95.16% for secondary institutions as of October 31, noting that these assignments also considered subjects with a deficit of educators.
“The concern of educator scarcity is an issue we are addressing vigorously,” Fadhlina was quoted by Bernama as saying.
“We have confidence in the capacity of the Education Service Commission and the ministry to tackle this challenge,” she remarked while responding to inquiries regarding her ministry during the debate on the Supply Bill 2025.
In September 2023, the National Union of the Teaching Profession reported that educational facilities across the country were grappling with a deficit of 20,000 educators.
Additionally, Fadhlina stated that she had directed the ministry’s inspectors to ensure that the seven strategies outlined to alleviate teachers’ workloads had been completely executed.
She mentioned that this included the termination of competitions, celebrations, or events that did not significantly influence student learning.
Other strategies involve limiting the regularity of the evaluation of school management aspects of the Malaysian Education Quality Standard involving teachers to just once annually.
The Dewan Rakyat subsequently sanctioned the operational and developmental allocation of RM64,190,049,400 designated for the ministry under Budget 2025
